Five Things to Know for March 19 in Montgomery County

Today is Tuesday, March 19, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. Council in Session: The Montgomery County Council meets today at 9:30 a.m. Here’s the agenda for today’s meeting.

2. Public Hearing: The following will be discussed at the public hearing today: the bill to reduce lead in drinking water, a corrective map amendment for the Takoma Park Master Plan, a special appropriating to give $384,986 from MCPS’ Operating Budget for the Emergency Impact Aid Grant, and commercial and residential zones for animal boarding and care. The public hearings start at 1:30 p.m. in the third-floor hearing room in the County Council Office Building.

3. Commission on Aging Community Forum: Montgomery County’s Commission on Aging has a public forum today at 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Silver Spring Civic Building, which features County Executive Marc Elrich. The forum focuses on “Older Adults in the County’s Diverse Racial, Ethnic and LGBTQ Communities.” Community members are invited to attend this forum and hear Elrich talk about his vision for “a more equitable and inclusive Montgomery County.”

4. Recycling Tour: One Montgomery Green is inviting county residents to tour the Montgomery County Solid Waste Transfer Recycling Center today from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. The center is located in Derwood. Here’s more information on the free event.

5. Networking Meeting in Kensington: Kensington CAN is hosting a monthly networking meeting today from 8:45 to 10 a.m. at Car Wash Coffee. Kensington business owners can stop by to meet fellow business owners and discuss potential ideas for collaborating.
