Five Things to Know for June 20 in Montgomery County

Today is Thursday, June 20. Here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. Parks, Party & Play – Bicycle Pump Track: A Bicycle Pump Track will be placed in Elm Street Park from Wednesday, June 12 – June 26. From 7:00 am to 8:30 pm both adults and children can take turns on the track to learn how to ride on a pump track or to simply fine tune their bicycle skills. Click here for more information.

2. Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of Silver Spring Veterans: The Montgomery County Commission on Veterans Affairs will join in the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Silver Spring Veterans Center at an open house. Veterans, active duty service members, their families and the general public are invited to take part in the event which will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall [9707 Rosensteel Avenue in Silver Spring]. 3. How to Acquire Grants for Small Businesses: Learn how to locate grants and write winning grant proposals. Different workshops for non-profit and for-profit businesses will be held from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm at the Silver Spring Library [900 Wayne Avenue 3rd Floor Meeting Room]. 4.  Council Committee Meeting: The E&C Committee and HHS Committee will meet jointly to hear from representatives from the County’s Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) on vaping in schools at 9:30 am in the County Council Building’s Seventh floor hearing room. 5. K Town Food Truck Night: Bring the family every 1st and 3rd Thursday through October to enjoy a selection of food trucks. There will be occasional music and entertainment from 5:00-8:00 pm today. Also, one more thing: Montgomery County Recreation (MCR) is extending its Friday and Saturday hours to 11 p.m. at five community recreation centers beginning July 5.
