Five Things to Know for June 13 in Montgomery County

Today is Thursday, June 13. There’s a chance for some rain and thunderstorms so grab an umbrella. Here’s the forecast.

1. Housing Opportunities Commission Offices Closed for a Good Cause: The offices located at 10400 Detrick Avenue in Kensington will be closed today for staff to volunteer at community organizations across Montgomery County. The agency will resume normal business hours on Monday, June 17.

2. Senior Safety Forum: Montgomery County’s Senior Safety Forum takes place today from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Holiday Park Senior Center [3950 Ferrara Drive in Silver Spring]. Elder Abuse Awareness Day is observed on June 15 worldwide. Click here for more information.

3.  Marc Elrich Hosts Online Town Hall: County Executive Marc Elrich is hosting a virtual town hall today from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Montgomery County residents can submit their questions for Elrich before and during the live online discussion. All of the questions and answers from the discussion will be posted online. Click here for more information.

4. Bethesda Summer Concert Series Continues: This series features free Thursday evening concerts from 6 – 8 p.m. in Veterans Park, located at the corner of Woodmont and Norfolk Avenues in Bethesda. Attendees can purchase food, beer and wine from downtown Bethesda restaurants during the concert. No outside alcohol is allowed. Today the Hall Williams Band (Funk) will be performing. 5. Poor People’s Campaign – Montgomery County Monthly Meeting: This meeting will feature a report on Poor Peoples Moral Action Congress and will be held at The Seekers Church [276 Carroll St. NW Washington DC- diagonally across from the Takoma Park Metro Station] from 6:30  – 8:30 p.m.  Click here for more information.

One More thing! The Montgomery County Public Libraries’ 2019 Summer Read and Learn Program is scheduled to begin on Saturday, June 15. This year’s theme is “A Universe of Stories,” encouraging children of all ages to dream big, believe in themselves, and create their own stories.  Space is featured in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.
