Five Things to Know for July 31 in Montgomery County

Today is Wednesday, July 31. Mostly cloudy in the morning, then thunderstorms later in the day. Here’s the forecast.

Here’s five things to know:

1. Council Committee Work: The County Council’s planning committee meets at 8:30 a.m. at the Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation for a roundtable discussion. The committee is chaired by Councilmember Hans Riemer; Councilmembers Andrew Friedson and Will Jawando serve on the committee.

2. Free Popsicle Socials: Join Montgomery Parks for games and free Popsicles to celebrate the end of Park & Recreation month. The socials take place from 4 to 6 p.m. at Cabin John Ice Rink, South Germantown Splash Park & MiniGolf, and Wheaton Indoor Tennis.

3. Opioid Education for Seniors: Join Dr. Gray Pushkin of the Maryland Patient Safety Center for an education session on opioid use and abuse. Bring expired and unwanted medication to dispose of safely. Holiday Park Senior Center from 6 to 7 p.m.

4. Takoma Park City Council Meeting:  The Mayor and Council meet tonight from 7:30 to 10 p.m. in the auditorium at the Takoma Park Community Center.

5. Miss Tess & The Talkbacks: Strathmore’s Live From the Lawn free outdoor summer concerts continue tonight at 7 p.m.

And one more thing: Mark your calendar if you are looking for part-time employment. The county recreation department is hosting two job fairs in August to hire part-time seasonal employees for jobs at the new Wheaton Community Recreation Center, which is opening in September.
