Five Things to Know for July 30 in Montgomery County

Today is Tuesday, July 30 and we are celebrating three random holidays: International Day of Friendship, National Cheesecake Day, and National Father-in-Law Day.

In the meantime, here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. Night One of CNN’s Democratic Debate: The first of CNN’s two-night Democratic primary debate is tonight at 8 p.m. Tonight’s debate features 10 presidential candidates, including Potomac’s John Delaney — the former representative of Maryland’s sixth district — as well as front runners Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.), Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass), and Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D-Ind.). Montgomery County Councilmember Tom Hucker is hosting a watch party for the debate at Silver Branch Brewing Company. Here are more details.

2. Council in Session: Montgomery County Council meets today at 9 a.m. in the third-floor hearing room in the council office building. Here’s a look at today’s agenda.

3. MCM Connects Adult Mental Health: Tonight at 7 p.m., behavioral health experts are gathering at Montgomery Community Media studios in Rockville for MCM Connects Adult Mental Health. This special event is a panel discussion on the state of mental health and treatment in Montgomery County. It will be live-streamed on mcmlive.org and broadcast live on MCM cable channels 19, 21 and 995. Anyone interested in being a part of the live studio audience can sign up free.

4. Elrich Announces Salvadoran-American Day Festival and Latino Health Fair: County Executive Marc Elrich is discussing the 10th Annual Salvadoran-American Day Festival and Latino Health Fair today at 10 a.m. at the Montgomery College Rockville Campus. Elrich will be joined by Consul General of El Salvador Ena Peña, Montgomery College Rockville Campus Provost Dr. Kimberly Kelly, Montgomery County Latino Health Initiative representatives, and COTSA President Francisco Ramirez. The event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, August 4 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Montgomery College.

5. Continuing a Lifestyle of Well-Being: The City of Rockville is hosting a free “Continuing a Lifestyle of Well-Being” workshop today from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Rockville Swim and Fitness Center. Here’s more information.
