Five Things to Know for July 21 in Montgomery County

The heat emergency continues and the county has opened several cooling centers. It’s Tuesday, July 21, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. Council in Virtual Session: Montgomery County Council meets virtually at 9 a.m. The agenda includes a resolution in support of mailing ballots for the general election. Additionally, Councilmember Nancy Navarro is introducing a resolution in support of recognizing the second Monday in October Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

2. Novavax President to Present Progress of Coronavirus Vaccine Candidate: Dr. Gregory Glenn,  president of Novavax in Gaithersburg, is speaking about the progress of NVX-CoV2373—Novavax’s COVID-19 vaccine candidate that was granted $1.6 billion in federal funding—at the 2nd International Society for Vaccines Virtual Congress. The virtual event is free to attend and Glenn is scheduled to speak at 9:55 a.m. Click here for information about registering.

3. Changes to Coronavirus Testing: Montgomery County offers free covid-19 testing during the week, but because of the extreme heat the normally scheduled testing times and places may be changing. Go to www.MoCoCOVIDTesting.org to check to see how the schedule is changing because of the heat.

4. Virtual Discussion on Rockville Lynchings: Montgomery County Lynching Memorial Project, Montgomery History and Peerless Rockville are hosting a 2 p.m. virtal discussion called  “Uncovering the Stories of Two Lynchings in Rockville.” Here is more information about how to sign up:

5. Youth Media Training: Montgomery Community Media (MCM) will offer two one-week virtual camps for youth ages 12 and up. The Podcasting Camp will be offered the week July 27. The Smartphone Video Production Camp will be offered the week of  August 3. Click here for the flyer.
