1. Bethesda’s Jaleo responds to shutdown: Chef José Andrés has pledged to feed furloughed federal workers at his six D.C. area restaurants, including Jaleo in Bethesda, until the government shutdown ends.

3. Stay in Your Lane: Montgomery County Recreation implemented a new lap lane policy on Jan. 1 for the four indoor swim centers.

4. Spoken Words Series  John Nieves and Barbara DeCesare read from their poetry followed by literary trivia and an open mic session at Glen Echo Park from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

5. Glenstone Museum: Ride the Route 301 bus to Glenstone Museum on Glen Road from the Rockville Metro Station and the museum will waive the reservation requirement for admittance.
