Five Things to Know for Jan. 15 in Montgomery County

It’s Wednesday, Jan. 15 and it is Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday. We will observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 20. Here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. State of the County: County Executive Marc Elrich is giving the State of the County Address at 10 a.m. at the Silver Spring Civic Building. County Cable Montgomery (one of MyMCMedia’s PEG partners) is broadcasting the address live on Comcast Channel 6/996, RCN Channel 6/1056, and Verizon customers on Channel 30. Montgomery County Government will also share a live stream of the address on Facebook.

2. School Board Budget Hearing: The Montgomery County Board of Education is holding a public hearing on Superintendent Jack Smith’s recommended FY 2021 operating budget at 6 p.m.

3. Healthcare, Talent Pipeline in Montgomery County: Montgomery College President DeRionne Pollard and Montgomery County Councilmember Gabe Albornoz will be on Facebook Live from 2:45 to 3:15 p.m. answering questions and discussing the changing nature of work and how it impacts talent development.

4. Celebrate Skating Day: Montgomery Parks is kicking off their National Skating Month activities by celebrating Skating Day at Cabin John Ice Rink in Rockville from 4:30 to 6:15 p.m. The public skate session costs $8.

5. Meals on Wheels Interviews: The Meals on Wheels Southwest Regional Office is hosting open interviews at the Olney Library from 2 to 4 p.m. Those interested should bring a form of identification and a resume. Here’s more information.
