Five Things to Know for Feb. 20 in Montgomery County

Today is Wednesday, Feb. 20. There is a winter storm warning in effect until 7 p.m. today. The National Weather Service expects snow to begin by 7 a.m. which will change to sleet and freezing rain by early afternoon. We may have 3 to 6 inches of snow and a layer of ice before the storm passes.  Travel may be treacherous, especially during the morning commute.

1. Schools: Montgomery County Public Schools, Montgomery College, The Universities at Shady Grove, and the Johns Hopkins University Montgomery County are all closed today.

2. Federal Government: Federal offices in the Washington, D.C. area are closed because of the weather conditions.

3. County Government: Montgomery County Government offices are closed. Essential employees must report as scheduled.
