Sunny skies and much colder. Here are five things to know in Montgomery County for Feb. 14.
1. Valentine’s Day: The police plan to step up distracted driving patrols, according to WTOP. On a lighter note, take your valentine ice skating to a special sweetheart skate at Cabin John Ice Rink or the Wheaton Ice Arena. First Lady Melania Trump will visit The Children’s Inn at NIH today for Valentine’s Day.
2. Bethesda-Chevy Chase Business Connect launch: County Executive Marc Elrich and Maryland Commerce Secretary Kelly Schulz will officially launch the Business Connect at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center. Business Connect is a new county initiative to grow and nurture small businesses in the County. The launch takes place today at 10 a.m.
3. Silver Spring Post Office Move: The post office move takes place this weekend, according to the Source of the Spring. There will be no retail services on Saturday, Feb. 15. Post Office Box customers will be able to pick up their mail at the Wayne Avenue location through 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14.
4. Intercounty Connector Weekend Closure: The westbound lanes of the ICC will be detoured at Georgia Avenue from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.
5. Small Business Network: Dr. William Kirwan, Dr. DeRionne Pollard, and Councilmember Craig Rice join Kelly Leonard at Tuesday’s Small Business Network session to discuss “The Kirwan Commission: What’s Good for Education is Good for Business.” Dr. Kirwan chaired the commission and Craig Rice led the Early Care and Education workgroup for the commission. Dr. Pollard is the president of Montgomery College. Join us Tuesday, Feb. 18 for this important networking session.
