Five Things to Know for Dec. 5 in Montgomery County

It’s Wednesday, Dec. 5, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. Hanukkah Block Party: Shaare Torah and Shaare Torah Early Childhood Center are hosting a number of block parties in different Montgomery County neighborhoods to celebrate Hanukkah together. Today the celebration is coming to Main Street in Gaithersburg. Festivities begin at 6 p.m. More details about the event can be found here.

2. Energy and Air Quality Advisory Committee Meeting: The EAQAC advises the Montgomery County Executive on issues about energy and air quality. Today’s meeting takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. in Rockville, and is open to the public. More details about the meeting can be found here.

3. MCPS Parent Academy Workshop: There will be a Parent Academy workshop about Cybersafety and Social Media tonight from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Parkland Middle School in Rockville. Parents with elementary, middle, and high school age students are encouraged to come learn about safety issues surrounding phones and websites. The presentation is in collaboration with the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, and presenters will give advice about monitoring household social media usage. 4. Gem of the Ocean: August Wilson’s play Gem of the Ocean. Buy tickets to the show is playing at the Round House Theatre in Silver Spring at 7:30. and stay after the show for a discussion.

5. Acoustic Open Mic Night: Sandra Dean is hosting a free Acoustic Open Mic Night at the Olney Winery from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Come check out the local talent.
