Five Things to Know for Dec. 18 in Montgomery County

It’s Tuesday, Dec. 18, Christmas is a week away, and here are five things you need to know:

1. Community Tree Trim: The Kentlands Mansion has a community tree trimming this year. Stop by to make handmaid ornaments and hang them on the outdoor tree in the Mansion’s side garden. The side garden is located along Briscoe Street. You can stop by between 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. For more information, click here.

2. Commission on Veterans Affairs: Montgomery County’s Commission on Veterans Affairs is discussing legislation proposed by Senator Cheryl Kagan that would allowed veterans who were honorably discharged from the U.S. military to apply to be police officers. Leaders from the Montgomery County Police Department will be present, including Chief Tom Manger and  Assistant Police Chief Russ Hamill. Also, Neil Greenberger, from Montgomery County Public Information will be present at the meeting to discuss Commission Veteran Outreach Tools. The meeting takes place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on 401 Hungerford Drive in Rockville. Check out the full meeting agenda here.

3. Read to a Dog: Young children learning to read are invited to practice reading to a certified therapy dog at the Potomac Library from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. For more information, click here.

4. Pet Night with Santa: Lake Forest Mall in Gaithersburg is allowing you to brings pets to get pictures taken with Santa. Pet Night with Santa takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. Register for the event here.

5. The Muppet Christmas Carol: AFI Silver Theatre is screening The Muppet Christmas Carol from 5:15 to 6:40 p.m. Get tickets to this classic Christmas movie you can bring the whole family to see.
