Five Things to Know for Dec. 13 in Montgomery County

Light rain is expected today, check out the weather forecast. Here’s your Friday the 13th edition of the five things you need to know in Montgomery County:

1. Pedestrian Fatality: A 9-year-old girl was struck and killed yesterday after getting off her school bus in Bethesda.

2. Police Officer Trial Update:  Officer Kevin Moris was found guilty of second-degree assault and not guilty of misconduct in office yesterday.

3. “How much is that doggie in the window?”  Adoption fees are waived for all animals at the Montgomery County Animals Services and Adoption Center today through Sunday.

4. A Conversation with Death:  Volume 18 of the Silver Spring PechaKucha takes place tonight from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Silver Spring Civic Building. This event features eight presentations from speakers who have 20 slides and a total of 6 minutes and 30 seconds to tell their story. Learn more here.

5. Winter’s Eve Celebration: Visitors to Glen Echo Park may visit open artists studios, create holiday crafts, enjoy a hot chocolate bar and shop at the holiday art show Saturday, from 4 to 7 p.m.  Glen Echo Glassworks will be open for do-it-yourself blown glass ornament making for a fee and Photoworks is holding holiday portrait sessions for a donation.
