Five Things to Know for Dec. 12 in Montgomery County

It’s Wednesday, Dec. 12., Christmas is in 13 days, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. Wondering what to do about PSAT scores?: Aaron Golumbfskie, the education director at PrepMatters is answering PSAT questions to help parents and students understand what kind of testing they need to focus on when it comes to applying to colleges. The event will be held at 5001 Cordell Ave, Bethesda from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Register for free here.

2. Art in the Park: For $2, take your child (ages 3 and up) to Art in the Park: Natural Masterpieces at Meadowside Nature Center in Rockville from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Andy Goldsworthy will teach families how to make artistic masterpieces out of nature using leaves, sticks, feathers, and more! 3. Pints, Policy, and Politics: State Senator William C. Smith, Jr. is hosting the second installment of Pints Policy, and Politics, “The History and Controversy of Alcohol Policy in Maryland and Montgomery County” at Astro Lab Brewing in Silver Spring. A panel of guests will lead a discussion about how the county and state regulates alcohol. The panelists include: Kevin Atticks, the executive Director of the Brewers Association of Maryland; Kathie Durbin, chief of licensure, regulation & education for Montgomery County Department of Liquor Control; Len Foxwell, the chief of staff for Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot; Dr. Elyse Grossman, chair of the Montgomery County Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Advisory Council; and Julie Veratti, the co-founder and director of business development for Denizens Brewing Co. The event is from 6 – 8 p.m.

4. Taco Wednesday: In case you missed Taco Tuesday, today is the grand opening of Taco Daddy Cantina on Quince Orchard Road in Gaithersburg. There will be a happy hour from 3 to 7 p.m., and dinner will be served from 5 to 10 p.m. Also, all day long they are offering 10 percent discounts on their food. Normal hours for Taco Daddy Cantina will start on Dec. 21.

5. Enjoy the holiday lightsMilitary, teachers, and first responders receive a discount admission to the Garden of Lights at Brookside Gardens through Thursday, Dec. 13. Learn more here. The lights are up from 5:30 to 9 p.m.
