Five Things to Know for Aug. 19 in Montgomery County

Today is Monday, Aug. 19. Another hot and humid day with temperatures in the 90s. Here’s the forecast.

1. Meet Poolesville HS Principal:  Poolesville High School’s principal Mark Carothers has scheduled three times to meet with the community to learn about his background and vision for the school, ask questions and express concerns.  The first two sessions are Monday from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and again from 3 to 4:30 p.m. The third session is scheduled for Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

2. Power Women: The Power Conference: Women Doing Business runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center, 5701 Marinelli Road.

3. Disaster Loans Available: The Small Business Administration is making disaster loans available to those affected by the July 8 floods. The Disaster Loan Outreach Center will help residents and businesses who may be eligible for financial assistance. The DLOC will be open from  11 a.m. to   6 p.m. at the J. Thomas Manger Public Safety Headquarters, 100 Edison Park Drive in Gaithersburg. Click here for other times.

4. Municipal Monday: Gaithersburg Mayor and Council meet at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.  Here’s the agenda.

5. Silver Spring Complete Count Committee Meets:   The committee consists of agencies, non-profits, businesses and other interested in ensuring everyone is counted in the 2020 Census. They will meet Monday, August 19th in the Silver Spring Civic Building at 6:30 p.m. for an interactive workshop to design the flyer and social media message.

And one more thing:  The Kennedy Shriver Aquatic Center is closed from August 19 through September 2 for annual maintenance.  The front desk remains open Mon – Fri, from 9 – 5.
