Five Things to Know for April 7 in Montgomery County

Today is Tuesday, April 7 and it is World Health Day. World Health Day aims to bring awareness to health issues around the world. Because of the coronavirus, this year, more than others, we understand why this is an important day. Here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. Council in Virtual Session:  Montgomery County Council meets virtually at 1:30 p.m. The council is discussing operations related to the county’s coronavirus emergency preparedness. Here’s a look at the agenda for the meeting.

2. Elrich, Gayles Talks Appointment-Only Drive-Through Testing: County Executive Marc Elrich and County Health Officer Dr. Travis Gayles will hold a press conference at 10:30 a.m. detailing a partnership with the state on appointment-only drive-through coronavirus testing.

3. Trone Hosts Telephone Town Hall: U.S. Rep. David Trone (D-Md., 6th District) is hosting a telephone town hall from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. The dial in number for the townhall is 855-962-1079. Trone will be joined by professionals from the U.S. Small Business Administration, IRS, Maryland Department of Labor, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and AARP Maryland.

4. YMCA Offering Free Produce to Residents: The YMCA in Bethesda-Chevy Chase is offering free produce to anyone while supplies last on Wednesdays from 4 to 6 p.m. and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon.

5. Continuity of Learning at Richard MontgomeryMontgomery County Public Schools Superintendent Jack Smith discussed the continuity of learning with staff members at Richard Montgomery High School.
