1. Helping People Award: Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot will present an award to Janet Neumann for her service as a longtime volunteer with Gaithersburg HELP today at the Pathways Baptist Church in Gaithersburg.
2. 7th Annual Bethesda Film Festival: The annual festival features five short documentaries by local filmmakers at three screenings scheduled for Friday, April 5 at 7 p.m., and Saturday, April 6 at 6 and 8 p.m. at Imagination Stage. A discussion with the filmmakers follows the screenings. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased, here.
3. Social Darwinism: Montgomery College presents the socio-political comedy by Angela Gant that looks at racism, male homosexuality, and feminist ideals. Friday and Saturday, April 5,6,12, and 13 at 8 p.m.; Sunday, April 7 and 14 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased online, here.
4. Teen Suicide Podcast: EveryMind’s Rachel Larkin and Your Life Matters’ (umttr) Susan Rosenstock Midanek discuss the rise in teen suicides and what you can do to help on the latest episode of Montgomery Talks with Doug Tallman. Take a listen:
5. Universities at Shady Grove Undergraduate Expo: Prospective students and families will have the opportunity to learn about the bachelor’s degree programs offered at USG at this open house. Saturday, April 5 from 9 a.m. to noon.
