Five Things to Know for April 21 in Montgomery County
It is Tuesday, April 21, and it is National Kindergarten Day. The day honors Friedrich Wilhelm August Frobel (1782-1852), who started the first Kindergarten. Here are five things to know in Montgomery County.
1. Council in Virtual Session: Montgomery County Council meets virtually at 9:30 a.m. The council will discuss legislation to provide more coronavirus related financial assistance to county residents. They will also hold public hearings via telephone on budget items and the COVID-19 Renter Relief Act. The council’s agenda is available online.
2. Hogan on ‘The View’: Gov. Larry Hogan will be talking to the ladies of ABC’s The View this morning at 11 a.m. On Monday, Hogan announced that he and his wife helped negotiate a deal which secured 500,000 new coronavirus tests from South Korea.

3. Board of Education Meeting: The BOE meeting is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.; here is the agenda. Live public testimony is suspended until the schools reopen. The Board is accepting written testimony submitted by email only. Submissions to testify were due Monday.
4. Bullis Entrepreneurship Shark Tank: The Bullis School’s annual student Shark Tank is from 12:50 to 2:30 p.m. and is going to be broadcast live on YouTube. Four student groups are presenting startup business ideas to three sharks: Blue Mercury founder Marla Beck; Cava’s Brett Schulman; and Seth Berger, CEO and Founder of And1.
5. 50th Anniversary Earth Day Festival: On the eve of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, Carpe Diem Arts and Washington Revels are hosting a virtual Earth Day Festival with music and calls to action. The event will be livestreamed on Facebook. Here is more information.
