Five Things to Know for April 9 in Montgomery County
Happy Monday! Here are five things to know today, Monday, April 9, in Montgomery County:
1. Last Tour of Duty: Assistant Chief Luther Reynolds retires today and is accepting the police chief’s position for Charleston, South Carolina. A Gaithersburg native and a Seneca Valley High School graduate, Reynolds was a patrol officer of the police district that included the Gaithersburg and Germantown areas. Reynolds rose through the ranks to assistant chief.
2. Meeting the Media: County Council President Hans Riemer will have his regular session with reporters at 11:30 a.m. Among the topics he’ll discuss are two zoning regulatory changes tied to the county’s pursuit of Amazon’s “HQ2.” One involves the creation of “signature business headquarters” in the commercial residential zone.
3. Interfaith Network: The Interfaith Network of Montgomery County launches with an event at 6 p.m. at the Silver Spring Civic Building. County Executive Ike Leggett will address the network’s value in creating a welcoming, resilient and inclusive county.
4. Death and Taxes: The Montgomery County Taxpayers League will hear from Alex Espinosa of the county’s Department of Finance as he speaks on the fiscal 2019 budget proposal. The session starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Lobby Level Auditorium in the Executive Office Building, 101 Monroe St., Rockville.
5. Naloxone Training: Residents concerned about a friend or family member with an opioid addiction are invited to attend a free training to learn about reducing unintentional and life-threatening opioid overdoses with the use of Naloxone, a prescription medication that reverses the effects of an opioid overdose.
