Damascus Father Criticizes High School’s Principal over Response to Incident

A Damascus parent told school Superintendent Jack Smith he was frustrated with his son’s high school principal Monday, saying she accused all the boys of the junior varsity football team, even though only five have been accused.

The principal, Casey Crouse, has not addressed the parents, he said.

“Certainly we will follow up on the question with the Damascus families,” Smith replied.

The father, who asked to remain unidentified to protect his son, asked the question at a news conference Smith had called for local media to discuss a range of school system topics.

The superintendent was peppered with a handful of questions on the Damascus incident. Smith offered few new details. He did say “actions” were taken against adults involved with the JV team. He declined to be more specific because it’s a personnel matter.

“It will all be known, but we have to work through the process in the right way,” Smith said.

He also said the school system has created “methodical” rules for adults to warn students against certain behaviors.
