Council Urging Congress To Extend Immigration Programs (VIDEO)

The Montgomery County Council will urge Congress on Tuesday to extend two immigration programs that have helped county residents — Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and the Temporary Protective Status programs.

The support for the programs, however, is different than the county’s desire to fight MS-13.

“There are those out there, including the president of the United States, who take all immigrants and paint them with the brush of violent crime. And it’s reprehensible. I’m sorry our country is led by someone who does that,” Riemer said, at a meeting with reporters Monday.

His meet the media event was his first since becoming council president last week.
