New Center Offers Supervised Visitation, Monitored Exchanges for Families with Court Orders

A new center in Montgomery County allows families with a county court order for shared custody and child visitation to transfer a child between the residential and visiting parent free of charge.

Funded by the County’s Department of Health and Human Services, The Safe Passage Center enables children to remain close to both parents regardless of the family situation or parental conflict, according to a news release.

Referrals to the Center are from the District and Circuit Courts.

Situations that may impose a referral from the court include domestic violence, mental health concerns, substance abuse issues, child neglect and family conflict.

Services available at the Center include supervised visitations and monitored exchange where staff will supervise the transfer of a child from the residential to the visiting parent and back to the residential parent at the end of the contact.

Separate parking lots, entrances and waiting rooms are available so parents do not meet on site.

The Center is staffed by security guards and trained visit monitors.

Evening and weekend hours are available and services are by appointment only.
