Council to Vote on Proposed Chevy Chase Dog Park

Montgomery Parks will pitch a new dog park in Chevy Chase to the Montgomery County Planning Board on May 6.

The dog park is proposed to be a little less than half an acre and located at the center of Norwood Local Park. Amenities will include a fenced area separating large and small dogs, a shade structure, seating and a water source for dogs.

Norwood Local Park, a 17.5 acre lot on Norwood Drive, was selected following a Dog Parks Site Suitability (DPSS) Study, which aims to find the most appropriate locations for dog parks in the area.

The Norwood Local Park was deemed a good choice due to the need for dog parks in the highly populated Bethesda-Chevy Chase area. The location is also close to downtown Bethesda, which has further demonstrated the need for the proposed dog park, according to the DPSS Study. Currently, the Norwood Local Park sees many canine visitors, so approval and construction of the plan will separate the dogs from other recreational areas.

If the planning board approves the dog park location and concept plan, Montgomery Parks staff will begin developing a construction plan with an anticipated start in summer 2022.
