BIG Tri-meet at the Dawg Pound

Damascus faces Churchill in the Dawg Pound

Churchill High School’s gymnasium known as the DAWG POUND on Saturday hosted a wrestling tri-meet between top ranked Damascus, Quince Orchard and the Bulldogs from Churchill.  It was great opportunity to watch three of the best wrestling teams in MoCo go at it on the mats.  Quince Orchard is experiencing a challenging year while Damascus and Churchill appear to be growing stronger as they head into the state playoffs.

On this bright Saturday afternoon many spectators, parents and friends found the match much like a circus with the JV teams competing at the same time as the varsity in side by side competition.  In my first coverage this season of any county wrestling activity expectations on individual performance was secondary to the action itself.  All teams found successes across match-ups but in my estimation the Churchill versus Damascus matches were a precursor of the road towards state individual championship glory.
