Police Investigate Attempted Kidnapping in Gaithersburg

Montgomery County Police Department’s Major Crimes Division is investigating an attempted kidnapping that occurred in Gaithersburg on Nov. 3.

According to a police statement, officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Hidden Marsh Street Nov. 3 because of an attempted kidnapping report. Officers spoke to the victim, a woman, who said she was waiting for her children to get off the school bus on Raven Avenue around 3:25 p.m. While she waited a blue sedan stopped in front of her. There was a man driving the sedan and another man in the backseat.

Police say the woman “stepped backwards when a Black male exited the vehicle and grabbed the woman’s arm, attempting to pull her into the back seat of the sedan.” (MCPD clarified in an email to MyMCM that it was the man in the backseat who tried to grab the woman.)

The woman escaped from the man and, according to police, she “ran to another vehicle that was driving by for help.”

Police say the man returned to the sedan, entered the front passenger seat, and the sedan drove away toward Girard Street.

According to police, the man who exited the sedan is 6-feet tall, bald, with a medium build, and was wearing a red jacket. Police say the driver of the sedan was described by the victim as “a bald Black male in his mid-30’s.”

Anyone with information about the two men or the attempted kidnapping should contact the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070.
