Caregiver Dies After Allegedly Being Assaulted By Group Home Resident, Police Say

A group home caregiver was found dead after allegedly being assaulted by a resident on Saturday, according to Montgomery County Police.

Officers were called to the group home located on Carona Court in Silver Spring around 7:30 p.m. and located the victim, 62-year-old Fokam Henry Sigala, unresponsive on the floor inside the residence. Authorities say Sigala was pronounced dead on the scene.

A preliminary investigation by detectives revealed that the residence is a group home for adult males who need living assistance. Police say a resident, 27-year-old Edward Opeoluwa David, allegedly physically assaulted Sigala, causing him to become unresponsive and ultimately die.

David was arrested and has been charged with second-degree murder. He was transported to the Central Processing Unit, where he awaits a bond hearing.

This investigation remains ongoing, according to police.
