A Silver Spring man was killed in a collision early Monday in the Fairland area, the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) said.

Edwin Marcial Bonilla Sanchez, 40, was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said.

Police responded at 1:46 a.m. According to MCPD, a 2007 Honda Accord and 2004 Chevrolet Express work van were both going west on Fairland Road toward Serpentine Way. The van tried to pass the Accord in a no-passing zone, police said, and the van struck the car. The van lost control, MCPD said, and struck a road sign, curb and several trees before rolling over.

It occurred on Fairland Road and Cedar Creek Lane, County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer said.

Sanchez is believed to have been the driver of the van; he was ejected from the vehicle, police said. Another man, 37, who is believed to be a passenger, was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Robentz Timogene, 21, of Silver Spring was driving the Accord and was not injured, police said.

The police department continues to investigate the incident and asks anyone with relevant information to call Collision Reconstruction Unit detectives at 240-773-6620.
