Five Things to Know for March 13 in Montgomery County

Cloudy early with a high temperature of 71 degrees, check out the weather forecast. Here’s your Friday the 13th edition of the five things you need to know in Montgomery County:

1. Maryland Public Health Emergency:   Gov. Larry Hogan announced sweeping changes in response to the state’s first case of the coronavirus spreading within the community rather than from travel.

2. Schools to Close:  All Maryland public schools will be closed starting March 16 until March 27 in response to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. During this time all school buildings will be disinfected. Meals will be provided for those children who typically receive meals at their school.

3. Libraries, Parks, and Recreation Facilities to Close:  Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich announced Thursday that starting March 16 all libraries, recreation centers, aquatic facilities, and park and planning facilities will be closed March 16 until March 27.

4. Telework for County Employees:  Elrich also announced that starting Monday, March 16, some county government workers will move to a telework schedule.

5. Strathmore Cancels Weekend Shows:  In response to Governor Horan’s executive order prohibiting mass gatherings, Strathmore canceled several events.
