Five Things to Know for Aug. 15 in Montgomery County

Today is Thursday, Aug. 15. Here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. 50th Anniversary of Woodstock:  In August 1969, the three-day music festival took place in upstate New York. Nearly a half a million people gathered for what turned out to be a iconic and controversial festival. A planned 50th anniversary edition of Woodstock which was supposed to take place at Merriweather Post Pavilion was nixed.

2. Child Safety Seat Inspections: Police officers trained in the proper use and installation of child safety seats will be working with employees of Fitzgerald Auto, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, and other volunteers to provide instruction and help to parents and caregivers about the proper use of child safety seats. This event will be held at Fitzgerald Auto Mall located at 5501 Nicholson Lane in Rockville from 10 a.m. to noon. More information can be found here.

3. Fair Continues: The Montgomery County Agricultural Fair continues in Gaithersburg. It’s Military Day, which means free admission for active military in uniform or with a valid military ID until 5 p.m.

4. Montgomery College Entrepreneurship Meetup:  Montgomery College staff will be at Peet’s Coffee in Bethesda from 7 to 8 p.m. to talk with anyone interested in the College’s Entrepreneurship program.

5. SBA Disaster Loan Outreach Center: The Small Business Administration is making disaster loans available to those affected by the July 8 floods. The Disaster Loan Outreach Center (DLOC) will help residents and businesses who may be eligible for financial assistance. The DLOC will be open from  9 a.m. to   6 p.m. at the J. Thomas Manger Public Safety Headquarters, 100 Edison Park Drive in Gaithersburg. Click here for other times. Those visiting the DLOC at Public Safety Headquarters will need to present a government-issued photo ID and go through security.

And one more thing: Free Country, the U.S. Marine Band’s contemporary country and pop music ensemble performs at 7:30 p.m. in the Bumper Car Pavilion at Glen Echo Park.  Click here for more information.
