Ledecky Officially Signs On with DC Team in New Pro Swim League
Keeping Up with Katie: The latest news and information about the Olympic champion swimmer and Montgomery County’s own Katie Ledecky.
Katie Ledecky will be representing her hometown for the DC Trident in the new International Swimming League. The ISL officially announced rosters for some of its teams and Ledecky was clearly the headliner for the DC team and the league as a whole.
Ledecky, who grew up in Bethesda, was named an ambassador for the ISL in April but has now made it official that she will be more than the face of the league – she will actually be swimming. The ISL will host an event November 15-16 at the Natatorium in College Park but neither Ledecky nor the league has said whether she will participate in the event.
It is not clear how often Ledecky, 22, will swim in the first season of the ISL as her focus for the next 13 months will clearly be preparing for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo which begin July 24 of next year. Ledecky has already amassed five Olympic gold medals and is expected to add a handful of others to her collection in Tokyo.
