Five Things to Know for Feb. 27 in Montgomery County

1. Education Budget MeetingThere will be an education budget meeting tonight at E. Brooke Lee Middle School in Silver Spring from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The meeting is hosted by Montgomery County Council Education Committee Chair Craig Rice, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Superintendent Jack Smith, and Montgomery College President DeRionne Pollard.

2. Job Recruitment Event: Home2 Suites by Hilton is hosting a job recruitment event today from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the East County Regional Services Center in Silver Spring. They are recruiting for the following positions: Guest Service Agents, Lead Guest Service Agents, Night Auditors, Housekeepers, Relief Housekeeping Supervisor, Laundry Attendant, Houseman, Breakfast Attendant, and Maintenance Technician. 3. Black History Month: Montgomery Parks is presenting a lecture today from 7 to 8 p.m. at Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park. Jamie Kuhns, a Montgomery Parks historian and author discusses her new book, “Sharp Flashes of Lightning Come From Black Clouds: The Life of Josiah Henson.”

4. Cat Coalition Meeting: Montgomery County Community Cat Coalition has a general meeting tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the Rockville Memorial Library. The meeting will be in the second-floor meeting room. For more information, go to the Cat Coalition’s website.

5. History of Chocolate: Sheilah Kaufman is an award-winning author, who’s written a total of 26 cookbooks. She’s “never met a chocolate she didn’t like” and she’s going to be at Davis Library in North Bethesda to talk about the history of chocolate.
