1. Schools Close Early: Montgomery County Public Schools close early today as the second marking period comes to an end.
2. Assistance for Furloughed Workers: Montgomery County provides a web portal for federal employees and contractors to find assistance provided by organizations throughout the County. The web address is montgomerycountymd.gov/shutdown.
3. Transportation Assistance for Federal Workers: Governor Hogan announced a statewide initiative to help furloughed federal workers that includes waiving all transportation fees for any federal employee who is still reporting to work, but doesn’t get paid. Metro is also considering free metro rides for furloughed federal workers beginning on Monday.
4. Author Book Signing and Talk: Halle Amor Moore will read a few excerpts from her book, The Pages of Life: A compilation of poems, and answer questions at Fields Road Elementary School in Gaithersburg from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

5. Furloughed Workers Resource Fair: Councilmember Will Jawando is co-hosting a resource fair on Saturday, Jan. 26 at Reid Temple AME Church in Silver Spring from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
