Police Officers Join Santa on a Motorcycle Ride to Benefit Children’s Inn at NIH (VIDEO)

Officers from the Montgomery County Police Department were called in by Santa Claus to report for holiday duty.

Dozens of officers joined Santa, who ditched his sleigh for a motorcycle early Wednesday, to collect donations from the community for kids residing in the Children’s Inn at the National Institutes of Health.

“Our Santa Ride goes back to the early 1970’s,”  Officer Robert Ladany, said. “One of them [police officer] had a child that needed some care down at Children’s hospital and they kind of put together a ride to try and cheer up some kids.”

With help from residents, Santa and his motor elves traveled to local businesses to collect gifts and donations. Donations obtained will help children choose presents for their family members at the Children Inn’s gift shop.

The Children’s Inn at NIH is a residential home for families with children who are participating in research studies.

“Going to the Inn, if we can take any of those kids there and even the staff members who have to go through some sort of treatment, if we can just take their mind off if that for an hour, then we have done our job.”
