Police Seek Public’s Help in Pedestrian Death in White Oak
Montgomery County police are asking the public’s help in finding the driver or owner of a car involved in a fatal pedestrian crash in White Oak on Thursday, Nov. 9, crash in White Oak.
The car — gray- or silver-colored sedan — was traveling southbound on Columbia Pike (U.S. 29) near Hillwood Drive about 6:30 p.m., according to a police statement.
Elaine Rowena Allen died in the roadway of Columbia Pike, police said.
Police said a white, 2010 Ford E250 van driven by Carter L. Cockrell was traveling south on Columbia Pike in the area of Hillwood Drive. For reasons still under investigation, the Ford van collided with Allen, police said.
Cockrell and the van remained at the scene. Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision, to include Allen’s direction of travel and whether she may have been struck by other cars.
Detectives believe that a gray- or silver-colored sedan was traveling in front of Cockrell’s van on Columbia Pike and may have witnessed the collision. Investigators are asking that the owner or driver of that sedan to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.
