Residents will have the opportunity to learn about the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line in three upcoming open houses hosted by the Montgomery County Department of Transportation.

The BRT is a new transit option for commuters along a 13.5  mile stretch on U.S. Route 29 between the Silver Spring Transit Center and Burtonsville.

Similar to Ride On’s extRa bus service, the BRT will function as a faster travelling option with its limited stops and will feature Wi-Fi and priority signaling.

The new line is expected to begin service in 2020 and will be the first of its kind in Maryland, according to a news release.

The open houses are scheduled for the following dates:

Nov. 15

  • 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the East County Regional Service Center, 3300 Briggs Chaney Road in Silver Spring. Meeting will be held in the Main Meeting Room.

Nov. 16

  • 7-9 p.m. at Montgomery Blair High School’s cafeteria, 51 University Blvd East, Silver Spring.

Nov. 20

  • 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Silver Spring Civic Center Great Hall, 1 Veterans Plaza in Silver Spring.
