MCSL All Stars 60th Anniversary
Montgomery County Swim League (MCSL) celebrated it’s 60th anniversary of holding summer swimming events for the youth of the county. I am sure that there were parents and possibly grandparents at Sunday’s All Stars meets who grew up with memories of swimming competitively in those 60 years against neighborhood clubs. So it was delightful to have a picture perfect day for about 300 swimmers to convene at the Rockville Municipal Swim Center (RMSC) to claim the title of the best in their age group at a particular stroke. Four new MCSL records were set during the 46 events.
MCSL record setters included Phoebe Bacon in the Girls 13-14 50M Freestyle; Eli Fouts in the Mens 15-18 100M IM; Emma Lantry in the Girls 9-10 25M Breaststroke; and Adriano Arioti in the Boys 9-10 25M Butterfly. Phoebe Bacon, who swims for Tallyho in Potomac now holds a total of 7 MCSL All Star records for a variety of swim strokes and lengths. As a side note Olympian and former MCSL All Star Katie Ledecky only holds one remaining MCSL record. Times change and these MoCo athletes swim faster. That’s why it is such a pleasure to be welcomed by the MCSL Board and staff to record and participate in this event – I get to see the best do their best. Thanks to Scott Witkin, outgoing MCSL President for bearing with me this weekend.
