Here are five things to know today, July 18, in Montgomery County:

1. On the Agenda: The Montgomery County Council meets today and on the agenda is a resolution to oppose a new Potomac River bridge crossing, a briefing on the Viva White Oak Project, several public hearings (performance animal violations, roadway maintenance, public campaign financing, etc.) and a briefing on the recent Rental Housing Study.

2. 9-1-1 Funding: State Senator Cheryl Kagan is chairing a committee meeting today in Annapolis with county emergency response experts about 9-1-1 funding and the need for upgrades. The meeting is scheduled to be streamed live on the General Assembly’s website.

3. Street Beat: The Department of Transportation will activate a traffic signal located at Snouffer School Road and Allison Hollow Way at the Montgomery County Multi Agency Service Park today. Electronic signs will alert drivers to the new signal, and for three days, the signal will operate on flash to accustom drivers to its location. On Friday, the signal will begin full operation.

4. Cell Meeting: The Northwest High School PTSA is meeting tonight with Montgomery County Public Schools officials and T-Mobile representatives to learn more about a proposal to put a telecommunications antennae on the school’s roof.

5. Outdoor Movies: Bethesda’s 12th annual outdoor movie series returns this week with the Wizard of Oz on the big screen tonight. The movie begins at 9 p.m. at the corners of Norfolk and Auburn avenues.
