Tobytown Cemetery Cleanup Uncovers More History (VIDEOS & PHOTOS)

The Tobytown Cemetery in Potomac is no longer buried under years of overgrowth. Office administrators and lawn service workers spent hours removing leaves, weeds and vines covering up grave markers on the historic grounds. The Housing Opportunities Commission employees found out the cemetery actually extends beyond the fenced section adjacent to River Road. MyMCMedia’s Phyllis Armstrong reports on discoveries made during Thursday’s cleanup day.

Montgomery County Council President Roger Berliner asked the HOC to do something about the dilapidated conditions at the cemetery established in the 1800s. The HOC will meet with residents of the community in April to talk about ideas for a gate entrance and historical sign for the burial grounds.
