Montgomery County Councilmembers Roger Berliner, George Leventhal and Craig Rice joined leaders of many groups that work to help the County’s less fortunate residents on Jan. 19 to recognize “Poverty in America Awareness Month.”

Statistically, Montgomery is one of the most affluent jurisdictions in the country, but there is a less visible population as seven percent of County residents live below the Federal Poverty Line and approximately 51,842 children in Montgomery County Public Schools (34.1 percent of all students) participate in the Free and Reduced Meals Programs (FARMs).
