MoCo Police to Review Alleged Video of Hoggle Children Sighting in New Jersey
Montgomery County Police are waiting on a video they say is on its way from New Jersey and on it one woman claims may be images of missing Sarah and Jacob Hoggle.
Laura Penny of Shoreham, Long Island, N.Y. told MyMCMedia Monday that she thinks she may have spotted the toddlers who have been missing from Montgomery County since September at the Joyce Kilmer Service Area off the New Jersey Turnpike near New Brunswick on Dec. 28. Penny said she stopped with her own daughter at the busy rest area between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. when she said she saw a boy who “looked just like Jacob” walking hand-in-hand with a woman in a long white sweater. Holding the other woman’s hand was a girl that Penny originally thought was too tall to be 4-year-old Sarah. But, after speaking with Sarah’s father Troy Turner and grandmother Lindsey Hoggle, she now believes it may have been her.
“They didn’t seem distressed but it seemed the woman was trying to almost hide them,” Penny said. “She had a tight grip on their hands.”
Penny didn’t call out to the children, but now regrets not doing it. She also didn’t call police, instead opting to contact the Hoggle family via the www.findsarahfindjacob facebook page.
“I had a really nagging feeling the entire way home. I wish I had called out to the little boy,” she said.
An officer with the Montgomery County Police homicide division contacted Penny on Dec. 29 to briefly discuss her sighting, according to Penny.
Capt. Darren Francke said he is waiting for a copy of the video from the rest stop.
“The video is managed by a private company and is enroute to us. We have worked with NJSP and they are aware of what we are working on,” Francke said in an email to MyMCMedia.
But, Francke said he doesn’t believe the sighting to be “credible.”
“We have to run it out. We are focused on a homicide investigation. Every piece of evidence we believe unfortunately that the children are dead,” Francke told MyMCMedia Monday.
Francke said that evidence includes the children’s mother Catherine Hoggle’s statements, statements from friends and associates, the actions by Hoggle’s attorney and other aspects of the police investigation, despite the lack of finding the bodies of the children.
The toddlers have been missing since early September. Their mother, Catherine Hoggle was the last to be seen with the pair. She is being held in the Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center being treated for mental illness. She has not provided any information about her children’s whereabouts. Anyone with information about the Hoggle children’s disappearance is asked to call Montgomery County Police at 301.279.8000 or 911.
