5 Things to Know Today, Sept. 13, In Montgomery County

Today is Monday, Sept. 13, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. Focus on Veterans:  Congressman David Trone and VA Secretary Denis McDonough will visit the VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Gaithersburg and meet with the Veterans Institute for Procurement located in Potomac today. Trone and McDonogh will focus on how to improve mental and behavioral health care, access to education and good paying jobs, and disability benefits for our nation’s veterans.

2. Council Media Briefing: Council President Tom Hucker and Vice President Gabe Albornoz are holding a media briefing today at 11 a.m. to discuss the Council’s first fall  session scheduled for Tuesday that will include a briefing on the school’s vaccination and quarantine requirements. The briefing will be streamed on the Council’s Facebook here.

3. Municipal Monday: The Mayor and Council of Gaithersburg meet virtually in closed session at 7:30 p.m.; the agenda may be found here. The Kensington Town Council meets at 7 p.m. with this agenda. The Mayor and Council of Rockville hold a virtual meeting at 7 p.m. The meeting agenda may be found here.

4. Job Fair:  The East County Regional Job Fair takes place today in Silver Spring from 3-7 p.m. at the East County Community Recreation Center, 3310 Gateshead Manor Way. Job seekers should bring their resume and dress in business attire. Online registration is encouraged. Call 240-777-8411 for additional information.

5. (ICYMI) White House COVID-19 Action Plan:  Last week President Biden announced a new COVID-19 action plan.
