5 Things to Know Today, May 12, In Montgomery County

Today is Wednesday, May 12, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. Weekly County COVID-19 Briefing: County Executive Marc Elrich, County Health Officer Dr. Travis Gayles and Emergency Management Director Dr. Earl Stoddard will hold their weekly media briefing at 12:30 p.m. You can watch live on MCM channels 21 and 995 (HD), County Cable Montgomery and on the county’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.

2. Vaccine Preregistration For 12-15 Year Olds: Parents and guardians can now preregister their 12-15 year olds for a Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine at a county clinic. Assuming Pfizer receives final approval from a CDC committee today, those youths will start being contacted Thursday to make an appointment.

3. Council Committee Meeting: The county council’s Planning, Housing & Economic Development (PHED) committee is meeting at 2 p.m. to discuss and make recommendations on legislation regarding economic development and landlord-tenant relations. See more here.

4. Have You Seen the Rockville Raccoon?: Rockville Police are searching for a raccoon that police say bit a dog and child in separate incidents on Monday. There is a high concern that the raccoon is rabid. If you encounter it, police say to put distance or an object between you and the animal, leave and call 911 to report it.

5. Senior Planet Montgomery: Senior Planet Montgomery continues to offer free Zoom classes to senior residents. Today’s classes include “Smartphone Photography” and “Streaming and Smart TV’s.”

And One More Thing:  Montgomery Community Media and the County Council discuss microaggressions in a special presentation titled #SeeMeMontgomery: Microaggressions.
