5 Things to Know Today, April 15, In Montgomery County

Today is Thursday, April 15, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. COVID-19 Updates: Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich is hosting a virtual press conference today at noon to provide COVID-19 updates. The public is invited to watch live on the County’s Facebook page and County Cable Montgomery at Comcast/RCN Channel 6 and HD Channel 996 or Verizon Channel 30. The briefing will also be live on our channel Access 19.

2. County COVID-19 Testing Clinics: Free COVID-19 testing is available throughout the county at eight sites today.

3. County Pauses J&J Vaccine: Following CDC and FDA recommendations, the Montgomery County Department of Health and Humans Services announced the pause of the use of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson (J&J) COVID-19 vaccine after six nationwide recipients developed rare episodes involving blood clots. County Executive Marc Elrich said the health department will substitute Pfizer doses for J&J doses until further notice.

4. Yard Trim Collection Delay: Due to a COVID-related staffing issue, curbside residential yard trim collection is experiencing an ongoing service disruption in several parts of the County. Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection says this may also be impacting some recycling collection. Click here for more details.

5. Child Abuse Prevention: As part of Child Abuse Prevention Month, Montgomery County leaders urge residents to report suspected child abuse or neglect by calling the 24-hour reporting hotline at 240-777-4417.
