16-Year-Old Charged with Burglaries, Bicycle Theft
A 16-year-old from the Clarksburg area has been charged with burglary and theft offenses, a Montgomery County police statement said.
On Aug. 30, a Clarksburg resident told police that two of his stolen bicycles were being offered for sale on the app, “OfferUp.” Detectives identified the seller of the bicycles as a 16-year-old juvenile male.
Investigators also determined that the teenager had sold multiple bicycles on the OfferUp app beginning in early June of 2017.
Investigators contacted the buyers of the bicycles and recovered 11. Detectives determined that six of the bicycles had been reported as stolen from the garages of the following homes in Clarksburg:
- 20 – 23100 block of Newcut Road;
- 26 – 23800 block of Burdette Forest Road;
- 26 – 11900 block of Skylark Road;
- 26 – 23100 block of Mistflower Drive;
- 27 – 22700 block of Autumn Breeze Avenue; and
- 30 – 11800 block of Snowden Farm Parkway.
Detectives obtained a search warrant for the juvenile’s Clarksburg-area residence and recovered a GPS device that had been stolen from a vehicle in the Clarksburg area.
On Sept. 15, detectives arrested the 16-year-old and charged him with burglary and theft-related offenses, police said.
Polcie said detectives believe that the five remaining bicycles were stolen between June and August 30 and that the owners have not reported the thefts to police. Investigators are urging Clarksburg-area residents who had bicycles stolen and not reported the thefts to police to contact them at 240-773-6261.
