Police Release Identity of Victim in North Bethesda Fire

Updated, Sept. 27, 12:40 p.m.: Montgomery County police reported Wednesday that the victim in the fire had been identified as  Askia Khafra, age 21, of the 700 block of Wayne Avenue in Silver Spring.

A police statement said Khafra’s autopsy results are pending.  A further update will be provided once the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has determined Khafra’s manner and cause of death.

Updated, Sept. 12, 6:45 a.m.: Montgomery County police detectives are investigating the death of a man who died in a North Bethesda house fire Sunday, according to a police statement.

Fire and rescue officers, as well as Bethesda District police, were called to the fire before 4:30 p.m. Sunday in the 5200 block of Danbury Road.

After firefighters rendered the home safe, they found the dead man in the home, police said. Another man was found outside the home and was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police provided the names of neither man.

The victim’s body has been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, where an autopsy to determine the victim’s identity and the manner and cause of the victim’s death.

This investigation remains ongoing and Major Crimes Division detectives urge anyone who may have any information regarding this house fire to contact the Major Crimes Division at 240.773.5070.
