Woman Killed in Wreck on Columbia Pike

Greenbelt Man Faces DUI Charge

A Greenbelt woman died early Sunday morning when she was struck by a car on Columbia Pike in Fairland, Montgomery County police said.

My Huong T. Nguyen, 45, of the 7900 block of Greenbury Drive in Greenbelt died at the scene, police said.

Ivan William Kadian, 29, of the 8400 block of 14th Avenue in Hyattsville, has been charged with suspicion of driving under the influence, police said.

Although Kadian was not injured, a man riding in the front seat of his car was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

According to the preliminary investigation, two Honda Pilots — a black 2006 model and a silver 2014 model — had been involved in a minor collision on Columbia Pike (U.S. 29) in the southbound lane near Fairland Drive.

After the collision, the driver and a front-seat passenger of the black Pilot left the vehicle, standing near their car, police said.

Then, for reasons still under investigation, police said, a silver 2006 BMW 321i traveling southbound struck the black Honda Pilot, also striking the driver and the passenger.

The wreck occurred about 3 a.m., police said.

Kadian was driving the BMW 325i, police said. He was not injured in the collision.

Nguyen, the driver of the Pilot, died at the scene.

Nguyen’s adult male passenger, who was also struck while standing outside of the black Pilot, was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

A woman riding in the rear seat of Nguyen’s Pilot was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Two women in the silver Pilot, the driver and a passenger, were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

This investigation is ongoing.  Anyone with information regarding this crash is urged to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.
