Wheaton Designated as a Maryland Arts and Entertainment District (VIDEO)
The State of Maryland has designated Wheaton as an Arts and Entertainment District and that designation is good for ten years.
County Councilmember Nancy Navarro, who chairs the Council’s Government Operations and Fiscal Policy Committee, issued the following statement about the re-designation and the future of Wheaton.
“As the Councilmember who represents the residents of Wheaton, as well as the businesses and community organizations located there, I was delighted to learn that Wheaton was re-designated as an Arts and Entertainment District for the next 10 years, and that the boundaries for the designation were expanded to include the future Wheaton Library/Recreation Center and Westfield Mall. In March, I submitted a letter to the State of Maryland in support of this re-designation, and spearheaded the Wheaton Arts and Humanities Center project in the County’s Capital Improvements Program.
“The revitalization of Wheaton is key to the overall success of our County. For the last seven years, I have been working collaboratively with residents, policy makers, the business community and other stakeholders to ensure that Wheaton’s future is bright. Wheaton’s Arts and Entertainment District re-designation is another milestone in the ongoing process that we have undertaken together to promote community revitalization and Wheaton’s economic success.”
