Western County Pool Scheduled for Major Renovation
When pool season starts May 23, it will be the last time swimmers will splash around in the Western County Pool before it undergoes a major renovation starting in August.
Montgomery County will be ripping up the old pool and putting in a new pool complex complete with a splash park at a cost of about $2 million, according to Project Manager Rouben Ghazarian.
“This pool is the only game in town,” said Poolesville Town Manager Wade Yost.
Yost said the pool is a mainstay for the community.
“This is the only thing around that people can go to for community stuff in an outdoor pool. The next closest is Germantown or Gaithersburg,” Yost said.
This project modernizes the 71,500 square-foot outdoor pool complex located at 20151 Fisher Ave. The project includes a bathhouse, snack bar, main pool and deck area and leisure pool. It replaces the wading pool with a zero depth Spray Pad. According to Melanie Sasse, aquatics program supervisor for the county’s department of recreation, the pool is in the rotation of renovation projects.
“It should be ready to go by next summer,” Sasse said.
The facility was built in 1991 and has had no renovation or upgrades since construction over 20 years ago, according to the county’s description of the project.
County planning officials are expected to meet with town officials on May 13 to go over the site plan for the work, Yost said.
This is great news. Now Montgomery County will be getting a new pool that is fun to swim and and clean. Everyone is certainly waiting impatiently for the project to finish. Hope that the launch will be spectacular and successful.
Modernizing your pool to include a bathhouse, and snackbar would definitely be a good idea. Pool renovation is important for the community, especially when it’s so close to residential areas. My hometown has a pool with a water slide attached. My kids love going there on Saturdays in the summertime, they really enjoy it.
