BlackRock summer concerts start this Saturday with the Navy’s premiere jazz ensemble, The Commodores. The series continues with free Saturday evening concerts through July 29. All concerts take place on the front lawn, attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. The concert will move inside to the mainstage if the weather prohibits an outdoor performance.
The 11th annual Quicken Loans National golf tournament takes place at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm through Sunday. The tournament features 120 of the world’s best golfers playing to benefit the Tiger Woods Foundation and the men and women of the armed forces. Tickets are still available and prices start at $45. Kids 12 and younger are free with a ticketed adult.

Art:
- Strathmore Mansion’s two exhibits, Colored Pencil Society of America and Blush, are on display from June 10 through August 6. Introductory classes on colored pencils are available Sunday, July 9 for adults and children.
- Gallery B‘s June exhibit featuring work by the Bethesda Painting Awards finalists closes Saturday. The exhibit is on display from now through July 1. The July exhibit, Saffron and Tea, features mixed media paintings by Saya Behman. A public reception will be held Friday, July 14 from 6 to 8 p.m.
- BlackRock Center for the Arts has two watercolor exhibits on display now through mid-July. The Terrace Gallery exhibit, Beyond Limits, features the work of artist David Daniels from now through July 14. The Mid-Atlantic Regional Watercolor Exhibition is on display in the Kay Gallery from now through July 15 and is a juried exhibit sponsored by the Baltimore Watercolor Society.
- The Gaithersburg Fine Arts Association presents a collection of multimedia works at Kentlands Mansion through July 7. This is a juried exhibition.
- The “Modern Surrealists” exhibit is on display at the Arts Barn Gallery now through July 4 and features the works of Marco Cuba-Ricsi, John Duke and Thomas Germer.
- Waverly Street Gallery’s latest exhibit, Private Moments, is on display now through July 8.
- The Glen Echo Park Partnership operates three galleries with ongoing art exhibits. Find more information about their schedule by visiting the website, here. During the months of May through September, Glen Echo hosts Art Walk on the first Friday of the month with open studios and demonstrations throughout the park. Each month the event features different activities.
Music:
- Bethesda Blues & Jazz Club present “A Tribute to the Funk Bands” Friday, June 30 at 8 p.m.
- The Rio Summer Concert Series continue Friday 6 to 9 p.m. with oldies from Rock & Roll Relics and Saturday 6 to 9 p.m. with R&B and Motown from Quiet Fire.
- Red. White, and Brews takes place Friday at Whalen Commons in Poolesville from 6 to 10 p.m. Proceeds benefit the Historic Medley District.
- The Friday Night Live summer concert series at Rockville Town Square continue with rock and ska from Will Hill.
- BlackRock summer concerts kick off this weekend with the The Commordores, the U.S. Navy jazz ensemble, Saturday July 1 at 7 p.m. The summer concert series are free, but a RSVP is requested, here.
- It is dance night at the Bethesda Blues & Jazz Club with the Blackbyrds performing Saturday, July 1 at 6 p.m.
- Bethesda Blues & Jazz Club present a Prince tribute show Sunday, July 2 at 6 p.m.
Festivals and Family:
- Zumba in the Park features an hour of high energy fun at the City Hall Concert Pavilion in Gaithersburg at 7 p.m. Friday evenings now through August 25. All ages are welcome.
- Gaithersburg’s SummerFest takes place Saturday, July 1 at 5 p.m. and includes live music, food, activities and the traditional July 4th fireworks display (a few days early).

Theater:
- Olney Theatre’s production of My Fair Lady runs through July 23.
- The Puppet Co. present The Wizard of Oz now through July 23 at the their theater in Glen Echo Park.
- RoundHouse Theatre presents August Wilson’s How I Learned What I Learned from now through July 2.
- Rockville’s Wine and Improv Series starts Friday, June 30 at the Glenview Mansion Cottage in Rockville. The series includes a glass of wine and a workshop on improvisational theater led by Stephanie Phelan.
- Montgomery College’s Summer Dinner Theatre presents Into The Woods at the Rockville Campus.
- Imagination Stage’s production of Wonderland: Alice’s Rock & Roll Adventure runs through August 13 in Bethesda.
- Adventure Theatre’s production of Junie B. Jones is Not a Crook runs through August 13.
- Silver Spring Stage kicks off their 50th Anniversary Season with the farce One Man, Two Guvnors which opens Friday, June 30 and runs through July 29. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and two Sunday matinees on July 23 and 29.
- Coming up: Imagination Stage’s Summer Sunday Fun-days begin July 9. The workshops are designed for 1 to 5 year-olds and include dramatic play, movement, music and visual art based on a popular children’s book.
