We Love Weekends Social Distancing Style: Weekend Planner for March 19-22

With all arts and entertainment venues currently closed in response to the coronavirus emergency, we decided to try and share virtual entertainment and a few great videos from Takoma Park City TV. Strathmore is working to provide a virtual guided tour of their current art exhibitions online.

Here’s our guide to arts and entertainment in Montgomery County, March 19-22.

The Fighting Jamesons Virtual St Patrick’s Day Concert:  The Fighting Jamesons are based in Virginia Beach. They play Irish Rock, Americana, and punk. Their members include Mike Powers (guitar, banjo, vocals), Geo Bauman (lead guitar), Jeff Mclaughlin (fiddle, backing vocals), Miles Hoyle (accordion), Vince Kafigan (bass) and Justin Conner (drums). The band performed at D.C.’s ShamrockFest in 2016.

The Fighting Jameson’s St. Paddy Day’s concert:

A Night of Guitar Music with Yasmin Williams:  Yasmin Williams is an acoustic fingerstyle guitarist with an unorthodox, modern style of playing. A native of Northern Virginia, Williams captivated a large audience at the Takoma Park Community Center Feb. 7 with an engaging concert. Her first album, Unwind, was released on May 4, 2018 and is available on all major streaming services and Bandcamp.

Cherry Blossom Viewing:  The Yoshino cherry trees around the Tidal Basin will be in peak bloom this weekend. While the park is not closed, the National Park Service provides advice about visiting, here. Most importantly, they stress that anyone who feels sick should stay at home.  In Montgomery County we have another option to see Yoshino cherry trees in bloom. The Kenwood neighborhood has over 1,200 cherry trees that were planted in the 1930s and 1940s. The suburban neighborhood is perfect for a drive-through visit.
